This Mother’s Day, we’re here to remind every mum just how wonderful she is
Motherhood is a journey of boundless love, but it’s also one that can be filled with challenges. Too often, mums feel like they’re not enough - especially when the world is so quick to tell them how they should parent, and how they should juggle it all.
In fact, over half of mums we surveyed said they are rarely or never told they’re a good mum. So it’s no wonder that 7 out of 10 parents admit to feeling like failures in the early stages of their baby’s life.
This Mother’s Day, we want to reassure all the mums out there that you really are doing an incredible job.
The weight of judgement
From unsolicited advice from well-meaning family members, to the pressure of perfection on social media, new mums can often face an overwhelming amount of scrutiny. This can make it so easy to feel like you’re getting it wrong no matter what you do - even when you’re trying your hardest, or simply doing what works best for you and your family. But the reality is, showing up, loving fiercely, and doing your best every single day is what makes you an incredible mum.
It’s the little things that matter

Being a good mum isn’t measured in big milestones - it’s found in all of those quiet, everyday moments. These moments might seem small to us, but to your little one, they’re their entire world. It’s always showing up for the 3am feeds, and 3pm pick ups. The scraped knees you kiss better, and the tears you wipe away. The way you always remember their favourite bedtime story, and which cuddly toy they love to snuggle up with. Even when you might be feeling unnoticed, your children see and feel your love through everything you do for them.
The power of a support system

No mum should have to navigate motherhood alone. Having a strong support system can make all the difference to how you feel as a parent. In fact, a third of the mothers we asked said their friends have been their biggest source of support since having children, and research backs this up - mothers with supportive friendships report lower stress levels and higher parenting satisfaction.
When you feel understood and supported as a parent, you feel stronger and more confident. That’s why finding a village - whether it’s family, friends or fellow mums - can be a lifeline. If you’re struggling to meet local mums, here are our top tips for making mum friends:
-
Find your local baby group
Ask your health visitor or check out notice boards (your local library or community centre are great places to start!) for your closest baby group. Some areas even host feeding support groups and baby weigh-in sessions, where you can get advice as well as meeting other new mums.
-
Sign up for baby classes
Yes, your newborn might be snoozing (or feeding!) their way through baby yoga or massage, but these classes are the perfect way to get to know other mums in your area.
-
Join a mums fitness group
As well as being great for your mental health, group exercise classes are ideal for meeting like-minded mums. Many local leisure centres and gyms host classes for mums, with babies welcome, too. If you prefer the great outdoors, find a group that hosts pushchair-friendly walks in your local area. Just make sure to get the go-ahead from your doctor before starting up those gym sessions!
-
Strike up conversations at the park
If you spot another mum sitting on a park bench watching their little one play, chances are she might be feeling just as lonely and tired as you are! If you’re feeling brave, strike up a conversation - talking about your children is a great way to find common ground at first. You never know - you may find yourself heading to the park cafe with a new best friend!
-
Join an online community
Have a search on social media for groups for local parents. As well as giving you the opportunity to join in conversations, it’s a great way to find family-friendly activities in your area. There are also apps, such as Peanut, that allow you to connect with and get support from other local mums.
Push it forward: share the love this Mother’s Day
