Eco friendly nappies are nappies that aim to minimise their impact on the environment, through the materials used and/or the production processes. This includes reusable (or cloth) nappies, but the term generally refers to disposable nappies that are made with sustainable materials. At Kit and Kin, we create our eco nappies in a carbon neutral factory, and both the top sheet (the layer that pulls liquid away from baby's skin) and back sheet (the layer that stops liquid leaking out) of our nappies are made from plant-derived materials. This includes the absorbent core of our nappy, which contains totally chlorine-free, FSC® certified wood pulp from sustainably managed forests. We're also the only nappy brand that helps to protect our precious rainforest for the next generation. 🌳🙌

Our nappies are made with sustainable materials. A much higher proportion than other eco nappies and of course a complete improvement compared to nappies made from petrochemicals. There is currently no biodegradable alternative for the velcro tabs and the elastics in the leg cuffs, but we are always looking for new materials as they become available. Biodegradability depends very much on landfill conditions and access to oxygen. We are in conversations with local councils, working towards a recycling option for used nappies.

Our hypoallergenic nappies are made with sustainable materials, so in order for them to break down as quickly as possible we would recommend following these simple steps:

• Ensure the used nappy is placed inside a biodegradable nappy sack which will allow for oxygen to permeate

• When disposing of the sack in the bin, if possible place it outside of the non-biodegradable bin liner (but still within the bin itself) as this will maximise the exposure to oxygen
